Description

Chester, MT – 38 Bred Black Angus Cows | Calving April 15 –June 15 | Mixed Ages (4–9 YOs)

Calve on green grass! A strong set of ranch-raised Black Angus cows built around Pharro Cattle Company genetics, known for calving ease, fleshing ability, and maternal strength. These are practical, functional cows that maintain condition easily and raise a calf every year. These cows are generally the bigger framed and heavier cows from their herd, they are leaning to a more moderate cow type.

The herd traces back to the Hawks Angus registered program, which produced its own bulls for many years and laid the foundation for the cattle today. The ranch later transitioned to a commercial program focused on grazing efficiency and adaptability, keeping the best traits of the original herd.

All the cows are home raised, the herd has been closed for generations! All replacement females are raised and retained from within the herd, then proven through fertility and performance. Heifers are run in a short breeding window with a high heifer-to-bull ratio, allowing the most fertile and functional females to stay in the program.

These cattle are 100% Black Angus, Pharro-type cows that handle rugged country well. They are expected to calve unassisted on grass, travel for feed, and maintain themselves in tough conditions. Gentle disposition combined with strong maternal instincts makes them easy to manage and dependable producers.

Fall vac program of PregGuard and Vision 8. The ranch focuses on stockpiled forage and bale grazing to improve pasture conditions year to year. Mineral program includes Redmond salt mixed with baking soda/conditioner, along with apple cider vinegar supplementation.

These are hearty, terrain-tested cows that will climb the buttes for grass and mother their calves in all weather conditions. Kind cows, excellent mothers, and well adapted to a forage-based program.
