Low-maintenance cows built to work, travel, and work for themselves.
Per Head
36 Bred Cows for sale weighing approximately 1,200–1,350 lbs near Grant, Montana, set to ship April 1–14.
These are fall-calving cows bred to calve from August 10 through late September. This is a crossbred set made up of approximately 53% red (Beefmaster influence) and 47% black (Angus and Angus cross), combining maternal strength, hardiness, and efficiency. These cows are designed to calve unassisted, take care of their calves, and maintain themselves with minimal input.
This group originates from cattle influenced by the Dragging Y Ranch program in Dillon, Montana, known for producing tough, efficient cattle. The ranch typically buys cows at 3–5 years of age and has begun retaining Beefmaster-cross females due to their performance. These cows are bred to 100% Beefmaster bulls selected for confirmation, durability, and willingness to travel. These did not breed up in their spring calving system and naturally shifted into a fall calving window, making them a hard-to-find option for producers needing August–September calves.
These cattle are tough and independent. They don't need or want your help.
The set includes a range of ages from young cows to solid mouth and broken mouth cattle (approximately 12 head of 4-year-olds, smaller groups of 5-year-olds, and the balance older cows). They are fed hay and maintained in working condition—never overly fleshy, just functional, easy-keeping cows. Health program includes Cattlemaster and 8-Way vaccinations.
These are practical, no-nonsense cows that are built to live, travel, and raise a calf every year without much attention. Turn them out and let them go to work.
