Grant, Montana – 36 Fall Calving Cows
A functional, low-input set of fall calving cows originating from the reputable Dragging Y Ranch program near Dillon, MT. This offering is made up of Black Angus, Beefmaster, and Beefmaster x Angus cross cows that are built for efficiency and longevity in practical ranch conditions.
These cows bred outside of the traditional cycle and are set up for an August–September calving window. Age dispersion ranges from solid middle-aged cows to broken mouth and short-term cows, giving buyers a value-oriented package with immediate production.
Weighing approximately 1,200–1,350 lbs depending on type, this set includes 19 red cows (predominantly Beefmaster influence) and 17 black cows (primarily Angus and Angus-cross). Roughly two-thirds of the offering are straight-bred cattle, with the balance being practical crosses that add hybrid vigor. The cattle are bred to 100% Beefmaster bulls selected for structural soundness, disposition, and the ability to travel and perform in rugged environments.
These are the kind that don’t require babysitting—cows that calve unassisted, mother up quickly, and raise calves with vigor and survivability. They’ve been managed on a straightforward program with hay feeding and a solid herd health protocol including Cattlemaster and 8-Way.
Condition is moderate and honest—“working clothes” kind that stay in shape without extra inputs. If you’re looking for maternal, efficient cows that can thrive under minimal management and still get the job done, this set checks the box.
