Top Cut Badland Raised Angus and F1 Baldies
Per CWT
Grassy Butte, North Dakota – 100 Unweaned Steer Calves weighing approximately 565 lbs, shipping October 20–31, 2026.
This is the top cut of 120 head, made up of approximately 70% F1 Black baldies (Angus cows × horned Hereford bulls) and 30% Black Angus. These calves come from a long-time Boltz family program with over 50 years of breeding in the western North Dakota badlands, designed to produce moderate-framed, docile cattle that perform both in the feedlot and as replacement-quality females.
The cow herd is 100% Angus, bred to a combination of high-quality Angus and horned Hereford bulls including Talkington Angus, Strommen Angus, Best Angus, Van Newkirk Herefords, and Carmichael Herefords. The result is a set of calves with added heterosis, growth, and maternal strength. Calves are born in a 60-day window, with the majority of this offering coming from the first 45 days. They are raised in rough country—deep coulees and steep hills—which naturally builds muscle, structure, and durability.
These calves are moderate framed, deep and long bodied, coming from cows averaging around 1,350 lbs. They are in heavy-medium flesh (BCS ~4), have been on the gain, and are performing well heading into weaning.High quality and consistent with the ranch’s reputation for strong weaning weights and even groups.
Calves are knife cut at branding in mid-May and follow a solid health program including Vision 7 with Somnus, Pyramid 5, Nasalgen, and pour-on. Steers are implanted. They are gathered off native range, sorted from cows, and weighed straight on the ground at the Grassy Butte scale.
These are hardy, practical calves built for real-world conditions, with the genetics and background to grow, perform, and add value in any program.
