Big Timber, Montana – 97 Unweaned Steer Calves at 650 lbs, shipping October 25.
These are the top end of 125 home-raised steers from Engle Ranch Inc., located 23 miles south of Big Timber. This is a very fancy set of 100% Black Angus calves with just a few brockle-faced black baldies mixed in. They are the kind that sort themselves off—big framed, deep bodied, attractive calves with real quality and feedyard appeal.
These calves come off a strong set of 1,400–1,500 lb good medium to large framed cows that are managed with the goal of weaning big, high-quality calves. They are deep bodied cattle with standout look and performance, the kind that should continue to add pounds and value clear into the finishing phase. This is a top-end sort, and the quality shows throughout the package.
Bull calves were banded at branding, and the calves have had both calfhood and pre-weaning vaccinations. They have been raised on native dryland pasture, are in medium, healthy flesh, and have not been implanted. The cattle will be sorted off the cows, hauled 7 miles on horse trailers, and weighed straight on the ground. They are described as uneven, which is to be expected on a front-end cut like this, but they are a very strong set of reputation-type steer calves that should get plenty of buyer attention.
