This is an exceptional set of Black Baldy replacement heifers coming from one of the most proven cowherds in the West. Originally retained as replacements, these heifers are only being offered due to drought conditions and the need to preserve feed resources for the cow herd. Opportunities to buy females of this caliber are rare, especially in this kind of volume. It would be a shame to see these cattle end up in a feedlot.

These heifers come from a ranch running more than 7,000 cows and represent over 70 years of disciplined female selection. The cow herd is a closed, ranch-raised program built around functional, low-maintenance females that thrive under commercial conditions. The cows average approximately 1,300 lbs in working clothes and are predominantly Black Baldies, carrying roughly two-thirds Angus and one-third Hereford influence. Calves are sired by horned Hereford bulls, producing the kind of maternal female that has made the Black Baldy cross famous throughout the West.

The story behind these cattle is what truly separates them. For generations, the cow herd has been trailed nearly 50 miles each spring to summer pasture and another 50 miles home in the fall. Cows must travel, raise a calf, maintain condition, and remain productive year after year. More than 95% of branded calves return to the weaning corral each fall, a testament to the maternal instincts and functionality bred into these females. Foot and leg issues are virtually nonexistent, and longevity is a hallmark of the program. It is common to find cows remaining productive into their mid to late teens, with some lasting beyond 20 years of age.

Genetic testing within the herd confirms what decades of selection have already proven—strong heart health, fertility, stayability, and longevity. These are the kind of females built to last, built to travel, and built to remain profitable through changing markets and challenging conditions.
