Description

Carbondale, Colorado – 235 SimAngus Steer Calves at 625 lbs, shipping October 15 to October 30.

This is a set of high-quality steer calves coming from 2 progressive Colorado programs, the Phoenix Ranch and Cold Mountain Ranch; focused on fertility, growth, performance, and longevity. There will be approx 160 Head from one Ranch, primarily Black SimAngus and BWF, sorted from 180; and another 70-75 Head from Cold Mountain, 100% RWF sorted from 80 head. These calves are the front end off a cow herd that continues to improve through aggressive genetic selection and disciplined management. If you're looking for reputation calves with documented genetics, this set deserves serious attention.

The cow herd is built around Hereford-Angus females bred entirely to SimAngus sires. AI sires include Institution, Boulder, and Frosty, while cleanup bulls are sourced from Carstens Simmental, with the operation purchasing some of the top-selling bulls available each year. Cleanup bulls average over $12,000 in purchase price, reflecting the program's commitment to quality genetics. The result is a set of calves with muscle, growth, structural correctness, and the ability to perform from weaning through harvest. The cattle are healthy, tough and have a good vaccination program.

The calves are approximately 80% Black and Baldy. 20% Red Baldy and come from demanding mountain conditions. Summer grazing takes place on USFS allotments reaching elevations as high as 10,500 feet. The program utilizes hybrid vigor to produce highly fertile females with strong maternal ability while generating feeder cattle that excel in growth, efficiency, and health.

Health management includes calfhood and pre-weaning vaccinations. Calves receive Alpha CD at birth, Pyramid 5, Vision 8, and Polybac at branding, followed by Pyramid 5 with Presponse, Vision 8 with Somnus, and Cydectin pour-on at pre-weaning. These cattle are not implanted.
