Description

Dillon, Montana – 220 Charolais Cross Steer Calves at approximately 525 lbs, shipping the first week of October.

This is a powerful set of Charolais-influenced steer calves coming off the renowned Matador Ranch in southwest Montana. Sired primarily by Charolais bulls out of red and black baldy cows, these calves are bred for growth, performance, and pounds. They are the kind that stand on plenty of bone, carry extra frame, and have the genetic horsepower to keep growing as long as you want to feed them. Whether headed to grass or straight into a feeding program, these cattle offer tremendous growth potential.

The Matador Ranch has long been known for producing practical, range-raised cattle that thrive under big-country conditions. These calves spend the summer covering country and are generally a little greener and lighter fleshed than many calves their age. Also, this particular group has a longer calving period and generally more uneven than other calves ff this ranch. As the season progresses and the range dries out, they tend to harden up and develop into the rugged, durable kind that perform well after weaning.

The Charolais influence shines through in this offering. Buyers can expect extra length of body, added frame, strong muscling, and the ability to finish at heavy weights with high yield. These are not cattle that top out early. They are built to continue growing and adding value throughout the feeding period.

Shipping in early October gives buyers an excellent opportunity to get them weaned and settled before the weather turns and fall storms begin arriving later in the season. Historically, these calves have come in a little lighter than projected at shipping, and with dry conditions already developing this summer, there is a reasonable chance they could weigh under the advertised base weight. For buyers, that may create an opportunity to purchase a bigger-framed calf carrying less flesh and more upside.
