Description

Ross, North Dakota – 100 Black Angus Steer Calves at 500 lbs, shipping October 21-31.

This offering features the top cut of 100 steer calves from a cow herd that has been carefully developed and improved since 1994. These are predominantly black-hided calves, with 98% Black Angus influence and only a small percentage carrying red genetics. Every calf is sired by high-powered Black Angus bulls selected for maternal value, moderation, and long-term profitability. Buyers searching for a high-quality set of feeding steers with uniformity, carcass potential, and proven genetics should take a serious look at this load.

The cow herd consists of approximately 80% Black Angus and 20% Red Angus females, with roughly 70% of the cows home-raised and the balance sourced from neighboring operations that share the same focus on maternal strength and performance. Registered Angus genetics have also been incorporated throughout the program. The result is a consistent set of moderate-framed, wide-made calves backed by productive cows weighing 1,300-1,400 pounds.

Bulls are sourced from respected programs including 21 Angus, McCumber Angus, and Topp Angus. Maternal traits and moderation remain the primary focus during sire selection, while still maintaining the muscle, growth, and performance necessary to produce profitable feeder cattle. These calves offer an attractive combination of maternal backing and feedlot potential, with genetics aimed toward carcass quality and the ability to capture grid premiums.

Calves originate from a disciplined 60-day calving season beginning April 25. All heifers are retained as replacements, leaving buyers access to the entire steer offering. This is a practical, uniform set with enough variation to make a good sort while maintaining consistency throughout the load.

The calves are banded at branding and have received both calfhood and pre-weaning vaccinations. Health protocols include 7-Way, Bovishield Gold, and Synovex C in the spring, followed by 7-Way, Somubac, Bovishield Gold, and Dectomax in the fall. Steers have been implanted.

These cattle are raised on native pasture and regrowth hay meadows with a year-round mineral and salt program. Winter development consists of high-quality hay and supplementation as needed before transitioning onto cool-season grasses and then native range through the summer. Hardy, practical, and ranch raised, they are the type that should transition smoothly into either a stocker program or a long-fed finishing environment.

Cattle will be gathered, sorted, loaded, and weighed on the truck approximately one mile from the ranch near Ross, North Dakota with a 2% shrink applied. This is a very attractive set of feeding-quality steers with the genetics, uniformity, and maternal foundation to add value throughout the production chain.
