Description

Dillon, Montana – 190 Charolais Cross Heifer Calves at approximately 495 lbs, shipping the first week of October.

This is a powerful set of Charolais-influenced heifer calves coming off the renowned Matador Ranch in southwest Montana. Sired primarily by Charolais bulls out of red and black baldy cows, these heifers are built for growth, performance, and longevity. They carry the extra frame, bone, and structural integrity that Charolais cattle are known for, making them an excellent fit for grass programs, backgrounding operations, or buyers looking to develop bigger, growth-oriented cattle.

The Matador Ranch has long been recognized for producing practical, range-raised cattle that thrive under large-country conditions. These heifers spend the summer covering big country and are typically a little greener and lighter fleshed than many calves their age. As the season progresses and the range dries out, they harden up and develop into the rugged, durable kind that perform well after weaning and continue growing efficiently.

The Charolais influence adds extra length, frame, and performance while maintaining a practical, functional kind of female. These heifers have the genetics to become big yearlings and continue adding pounds on grass. They are the kind that can take advantage of a good gain curve and reward buyers willing to add age and weight.

This particular group comes from a longer calving period than some of the other Matador offerings and will be less even. Even so, there are enough numbers here to put together a substantial offering of growth-oriented heifers with plenty of upside.

Shipping in early October gives buyers an excellent opportunity to get them weaned and settled before fall weather arrives. Historically, these calves have often come in a little lighter than projected at shipping, and with dry conditions already developing this summer, there is a reasonable chance they could weigh under the advertised base weight. For buyers, that may present an opportunity to buy bigger-framed, greener cattle with additional growth potential ahead of them.
