Per CWT
Columbus, Montana – 92 Black Angus Steer Calves at 510 lbs, shipping September 1–5.
This is an outstanding offering of 92 home-raised Black Angus steer calves representing the top end sorted from 100 head. This ranch has built a reputation for raising high-quality, growth-oriented cattle, and this set is no exception. Normally these calves would ship in late October weighing around 650 pounds, but drought conditions and limited grass have created an opportunity for buyers to purchase them nearly two months earlier while they are still green and ready to add value.
These calves are backed by quality Angus genetics selected for muscling, growth, and feedyard performance. Raised from a herd of moderate 1,300-1,400 pound cows with a strong emphasis on maternal ability and structural correctness, they are the big-framed, deep-bodied kind that have the potential to finish in the 1,500-pound range. Their genetics and uniformity make them an excellent fit for stocker operators, backgrounders, or feedyards looking for cattle capable of reaching grid premiums.
Only four to five head are typically sorted from the steer crop each year, resulting in a very consistent load. While the hot, dry summer may leave these calves carrying a greener flesh condition than normal, they remain a high-quality set with plenty of muscle and exceptional growth potential. Shipping early gives buyers the opportunity to capitalize on added gain and flexibility through the fall.
Bull calves were knife cut and have received a complete calfhood and pre-weaning vaccination program. Steers have been implanted and will be gathered the morning of shipping, sorted from the cows, sorted by sex, and weighed on the ground with a 2% shrink approximately 12 miles north of Columbus, Montana.
