Per CWT
Stanford, Montana – 165 Charolais-influenced steer calves at 565 lbs, shipping October 17, 24, or 31.
This is a strong offering of home-raised steer calves from Neuman Charolais, backed by a program focused on growth, muscle, and practical performance. The calves are primarily Charolais-sired out of mostly Black Angus and Black Baldy cows, creating a powerful crossbred package with plenty of hybrid vigor and growth potential.
Approximately 70% of the steers are Charolais Cross, 25% Black Angus, and 5% Red White Face. A few gray calves and a handful of pink-nosed Charolais calves may be included. The cattle are expected to be more uneven this year due to drought conditions, with approximately 165 head sorted from 174 calves.
The cow herd consists primarily of medium-sized, 1,300–1,400 lb females selected for sound conformation, maternal ability, and milking ability. Charolais sires are primarily sourced from Brevig and Cobb Charolais programs, with muscling and performance being key priorities. The resulting calves have the frame and genetic potential to grow to 1,500–1,600 lbs with the right inputs.
These calves are in good, healthy condition with a medium flesh and a body condition score of approximately 3. They are the thrifty, growth-oriented kind that may not be the fanciest, but offer plenty of opportunity for buyers looking for hardy cattle with the ability to gain and add value.
The calves have received a complete calfhood and pre-weaning vaccination program, including Vision 8 Somnus and Pyramid 5 Presponse. They have remained on native dryland pasture and have not been weaned this year due to drought conditions.
Cattle will be gathered from two summer pastures, with one group hauled approximately 15 miles and the other hauled more than 50 miles. They will be weighed straight on the ground following the long morning gather.
