This is a top-end set of home-raised Charolais Cross heifers, sorted as the biggest and best from 210 head. A 25% sort used to make the group exceptionally even, bringing together the front end of the calf crop. These heifers are built to feed and offer the kind of growth and performance that can outperform plenty of steers in the feeding yard.
The cattle are 100% Charolais Cross, including Black Nose and Buckskin Charolais, sired by big badass Eaton Char Bulls! The cow herd is made up of Black, Black Baldy and Red Angus cows. Sires are selected with an emphasis on muscling and performance, producing cattle with plenty of growth, frame, and hybrid vigor.
These are big-framed, deep-bodied heifers with an estimated finish weight of 1500-1600 lbs. They have the kind of frame and growth curve to keep putting pounds on. The heifers were selected from a large group to bring the biggest, highest-performing end together in a very even package.
The heifers are in good, healthy condition. Pasture has been dry and drought has been challenging in the area this year, so the calves may be a little green, leaving buyers plenty of opportunity to put additional pounds on them. They have been grazing native dryland pasture and regrowth hay meadows.
The group is very even, with the lighter calves retained back as grass calves and this offering representing a large front-end sort. The heifers will be gathered early in the morning from more than 400 pairs, sorted from the cows and by sex, then weighed on the ground with a 2% shrink.
