Home-Raised Black SimAngus steers
Per CWT
Upton, Wyoming – 115 Black SimAngus steer calves at 500 lbs.
This is a one-iron, home-raised set of Black SimAngus steer calves with a strong Sim-Angus influence and a few BWFs. The calves are black-hided, including black, black brockle-face, and black whiteface, and are CAB-eligible color.
The calves are sired by Sim-Angus bulls carrying Wishbone Simmental and Wilson Sim-Angus genetics, along with Hereford influence. The combination brings natural heterosis and a useful set of feeder cattle with the ability to gain and perform. The ranch has retained and fed their own steers in recent years and has seen these genetics perform well.
The calves have been raised on the cow and are currently grazing native pasture. At 500 lbs, they offer buyers a practical weight to continue backgrounding or move toward a finishing program. The group is fairly even. About 10–15% of the BWF calves are roughly 20 days older than the rest of the group.
Calves were banded and EID tagged. The branding vaccination program included Pyramid 5 + Presponse and Vision 7 Somnus with SPUR, followed by the same products for preconditioning on September 24. The calves are implanted.
Cattle will be gathered in the morning and weighed on the ground with a 2% shrink. They are located 8 miles southeast of Upton, Wyoming and will be weighed and loaded at the ranch.
