Description

38 Black Angus & Black Baldy Bred Heifers for Sale at Judith Gap, MT
These fancy, home-raised cattle are medium to large frame, black-hided heifers, heavily culled prior to breeding to ensure only top-performing females remain. The heifers averaged 1,090 lbs on December 9.

Calving Information:
Bred to low birth weight Gaugler Angus bulls, these heifers are backed by years of careful selection for calving ease, performance, and herd retention. The sires (RD Charlo and RD Jetstream) are known for low birth weights, strong maternal traits, good growth, and sound structure. These heifers have been ultrasounded and sorted into two calving windows:

  • Group 1: 26 head, estimated to calve April 4 for two weeks.
  • Group 2: 12 head, estimated to calve April 23 for two weeks.

Breeding Details:
The herd is predominantly Black Angus, with some F1 Angus/Hereford Black Baldy heifers, ensuring hybrid vigor and outstanding maternal performance.

Management Philosophy:
We have focused on raising females with excellent feet, udders, and disposition. These heifers are bred to thrive in their environment, efficiently breed back, and travel between feed and water with ease. Our goal has been to create long-lasting, productive females that fit within a practical, low-input system.

Health & Nutrition:
All heifer calves were retained after weaning and developed on a roughage-based diet of free-choice hay with 3-4 lbs of barley per day. Poor performers and heifers with poor dispositions were culled before breeding.

Nutritional Program:
These heifers grazed native range during the growing season and are fed grass/alfalfa hay during the winter. They are on a comprehensive mineral and salt program, including 12:12 mineral from Mountain West Ag Services, adjusted annually based on liver biopsy results. Hi-Eddi salt has significantly reduced foot rot incidents.

  • Vaccination Program:
    • Bangs vaccinated and EID tagged.
    • Pre-breeding: Reprostar VL5HB.
    • Preg-check/pre-calving: Guardian and clostridium perfringens Type A toxoid.
    • Winter: Ivermectin.
